Concept & Inspiration

“Interdimensional Rift” was born from the idea of representing a digital entity that embodies the life force of a techno-organic world. Inspired by cyberpunk visions and sci-fi video games, the project plays with the contrast between light and matter, between organic elements (the humanoid being) and fractal mechanisms surrounding it.

Technical Analysis

Modeling & Sculpting

  • Human base modeled in Blender with clean topology, followed by retopology for polygon optimization.
  • Arches and circular modules created using Geometry Nodes, with parametric thickness and curvature angle.

Shader & Texturing

  • Principled BSDF for metals: metallic = 1, variable roughness (0.0–0.2) to achieve sharp yet realistic reflections.
  • Emission Shader for the avatar: cyan blue color with pulsing animation controlled by a driver (blinking effect).
  • Procedural textures: blended noise and voronoi to simulate corrosion patterns and subtle surface imperfections.

Lighting & Atmosphere

  • Cold/cyan area lights inside the shell, reinforced by point lights to enhance internal emission thresholds.
  • Light volumetric scatter to make the air “breathe” and capture light beams for added depth.

Compositing & Effects

  • Bloom and selective glare in Blender Compositor to enhance high-energy zones.
  • Subtle chromatic aberration and soft vignette added in post-production for a cinematic finish.

Render Optimization

  • Rendered in Cycles using OptiX Denoise, 200 samples for a good speed/quality balance.
  • Scene divided into render layers (avatar, metal structure, background); merged and graded separately for full control.

Graphic Description

Central Composition
The avatar, floating in the center of the scene, acts as the visual core. Curved arcs and fragmented segments spiral around it, guiding the eye to the focal point.

Light & Color
A warm-blue light inside the being emits iridescent glows across mirrored metals, while prismatic reflections add flickers to the fragmented background.

Textures & Materials

  • Cylindrical bodies and fragments: glossy metallic material with micro-roughness to break up reflections.
  • Avatar: energy-blue emission shader with slight intensity fluctuations, simulating a pulsing core of light.

Background & Depth
A repeated pattern of sliding panels creates a sense of infinite depth, emphasized by subtle atmospheric motion blur.

Key Skills

  • Hybrid modeling (organic + procedural with Geometry Nodes)
  • PBR Texturing & Shading (emissive, specular metal, procedural patterns)
  • Cinematic lighting (volumetrics and internal light points)
  • Advanced compositing (bloom, glare, chromatic aberration)
  • Optimized workflow (render layers, denoise, post-grade)
