Concept & Inspiration

Climb-it Game is a project entirely developed on the Spatial.io platform, designed to deliver a 3D climbing experience through interactive gameplay logic. The goal was to transform a static environment into a dynamic vertical path, with progression mechanics, checkpoints, and movement-based challenges. The development context presented an additional challenge: the Spatial.io SDK was in beta, frequently updated, requiring a flexible and easily updatable architecture.

Technical Contribution

Game Logic Development with Visual Script

I implemented the climbing and interaction mechanics using Spatial.io’s Visual Script system, organizing the logic into modular, reusable node blocks. This block-based structure enabled separate management of:

  • Level start triggers and event activation
  • Checkpoint detection
  • Score tracking and win conditions
  • Player states (climbing, falling, idle)

The system was designed to allow elements to be added or removed without rewriting the entire logic.

Integration with Spatial.io SDK

Using the SDK allowed for the use of native APIs to control objects, detect interactions, and manage networked events. I adopted strategies compatible with the SDK’s frequent updates, including:

  • Separation of gameplay logic and visual management to ease maintenance
  • Use of standard components where possible, to reduce the need for custom patches
  • Continuous testing after each SDK update to avoid regressions

Optimization and Testing

To ensure smoothness and stability:

  • I tested performance in multi-user sessions to identify bottlenecks
  • Simplified some script sequences to reduce execution time
  • Introduced safety checks to prevent multiple activations of the same event
  • Conducted functional and usability testing to fix movement or detection issues

Collaboration

The Creative Director was responsible for creating the 3D environments, while I handled all technical integration, transforming them into a playable experience. This division ensured high visual quality without compromising logic performance or stability.
